Abstract
本スタンダードは，global Information & Control Committeeで技術的に承認されている。現版は2011年9月12日，global Audits and Reviews Subcommitteeにて発行が承認された。2011年11月にwww.semiviews.org およびwww.semi.orgで入手可能となる。初版は1997年9月発行，前版は2004年7月発行。
注意： 本文書は，SEMI E54一連のスタンダードではなく，単独のスタンダードとして出版および販売される。
このスタンダードは，半導体製造ツールでの，SEMIが指定した（共通およびデバイス独自の）デバイスモデルに従って作動するセンサ／アクチュエータネットワーク（SAN）上にある知的デバイスが，相互に通信できるようにするためのDeviceNetプロトコルに基づいて通信使用を定義している。
背景および動機
－ DeviceNetは，簡単な産業用デバイス（例，センサおよびアクチュエータ）と，コントローラのような高度なデバイスとのネットワーク化を規定している。DeviceNetが規定しているものは：- 低レベルのデバイスのネットワーク化の解決法
- 低レベルのデバイスの知性へのアクセス
- マスター／スレーブおよびピアツーピア性能
DeviceNetはコントローラエリアネットワーク（Controller Area Network（CAN））技術に基づいている。CANはメディアアクセスコントロール（Media Access Control（MAC)）手法および物理的信号特性を定義している。DeviceNetは，完璧なネットワーク定義を提供するために，通信モデルおよびプロトコルだけでなく，CAN周辺の物理層定義にも言及している。
本文書は，共通および特定のデバイスネットワークが見ることのできる構造およびビヘイビア（挙動，振る舞い）をDeviceNetネットワークに表記的にマッピングして，SEMI準拠のSAN上にある知的デバイス間の通信を可能にする。
