本仕様は，Global Silicon Wafer Committeeで技術的に承認されたもので，Japanese Silicon Wafer Committeeが直接責任を負うものである。現版は2003年8月8日Japanese Regional Standards Committeeにて承認されている。2003年9月にまずwww.semi.orgで入手可能になり，2003年11月発行に至る。初版は1996年発行。

この仕様が定義するのは，ウェーハメーカーからICメーカーの製造工場の受け入れドックまでの300 mmウェーハの安全な運搬用容器についてである。
