本ガイドラインは，Global Micropatterning Committeeで技術的に承認されたもので，Japanese Micropatterning Committeeが直接責任を負うものである。現版は2003年4月28日Japanese Regional Standards Committeeにて承認されている。2003年6月にまずwww.semi.orgで入手可能になり，2003年7月発行に至る。初版は1992年発行。

このガイドラインは，マスク描画装置の精度表示に関する一般的必要事項に関して記載するものである。装置の描画精度は，描画されたマスクにより評価されるのであり，その間に介在するプロセス条件により大きく左右されるため，ユーザとサプライヤ間の話し合いにより規定する必要がある。
